Who is Challenge Works?
Launched in 2012, Challenge Works (previously Nesta Challenges) is a hub of expertise on challenge prizes and competitions; as well as running prizes to help solve some of society’s most pressing challenges.
Challenge Works aims to increase practical evidence and understanding about challenge prizes, and how they can be used effectively by governments, charities and businesses to have a tangible positive impact on society.

How were the teams selected?
The MPP Incubator is open only to teams who participated in the initial phase between September 2022 and May 2023. Teams were invited to submit in application in September 2023. Teams were assessed against specific criteria and selected based on recommendation from expert assessors.

What is the difference between the Prize and the Incubator?
The Mombasa Plastics Prize (MPP) was a challenge prize, a competition that offers a reward to whoever can solve a problem first or most effectively. The prize ran from September 2022 to May 2023.Building on the remarkable success of the prize, the MPP Incubator, which will collaborate closely with a few of the most promising teams from the initial phase.As members of the MPP Incubator, these teams will gain access to financial and capacity-building support, encompassing invaluable mentoring and training.
